City process server bond cost
If you serve 5 or more processes personally or by substituted service in New York City over a one-year period, you are required to post a $10,000 surety bond.
Why this bond
By obtaining a surety bond, process servers guarantee to comply with NYC Administrative Code Sections 20-403 and Rules of the City of New York Sections 2-231. More specifically, the principal (process server) promises to indemnify the City of New York or any aggrieved person from damage caused by the principal’s violations.
City process server bond details
This bond is written on a 2-year term and must expire on the last day of February of even years. All bonds will remain in full effect during the term unless canceled by the surety.
If the surety chooses to cancel this bond, a written cancellation notice must be sent to the principal and City of New York Department of Consumer Affairs 60 days prior to the proposed cancellation date.
