IFTA bond cost

Arizona requires IFTA carriers to be licensed and some to be bonded before conducting business in the state. Once an IFTA carrier is licensed, that license is valid in the contiguous United States and 10 Canadian provinces. The surety bond amount is determined by the director of the Department of Transportation, but must not exceed $100,000. Contact the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) to determine if you need a bond and in what amount before requesting a quote. The cost of your IFTA bond will vary depending on a review of your financial history—don’t worry if your credit is less-than-perfect!

Why this bond

IFTA bonds ensure that interstate motor carriers licensed in Arizona pay the required use fuel taxes and comply with Chapter 16, Article 2 of the Arizona Revised Statutes, Title 28. IFTA carriers must submit a report to ADOT quarterly, detailing use fuel used and other information the ADOT director requires.

IFTA bonds are in effect for one year unless claimed against or cancelled. However, the surety must give 60-days’ written notice to the principal and obligee before cancelling the bond.
